Avon Pulse: a 90 day onboarding journey
A confident first step: designing ‘Pulse’, Avon’s global onboarding experience to connect, inspire and empower every new recruit in their first 90 days.
The challenge
Avon commissioned us to design a global onboarding experience to be delivered as part of their 90-day onboarding programme. The session needed to do more than inform. It had to inspire, energise, and connect new employees to Avon’s mission and culture from day one.
The onboarding experience had to balance information with emotion, introducing new starters to Avon’s products, people, and ways of working, while fostering a strong sense of belonging. With a global workforce and South American HQ, the format also had to be highly adaptable for both in-person and remote delivery.
The creative
We began by identifying the right delivery platform to bring the experience to life. While PowerPoint lacked energy and a full video suite was outside the budget, Prezi offered the perfect balance, allowing us to build an interactive, dynamic experience that could incorporate video, animation, timelines, and imagery, with smooth navigation and presenter control.
The requirements
- A flexible format that worked equally well for virtual and in-person delivery
- An engaging, interactive experience suitable for a two-hour session
- A unifying creative concept that could bring energy, emotion, and structure to the session
- Clear, structured delivery of business and brand information without relying on dense slides
- Development of branded materials, videos, and interactive activities
- Training and guidance for facilitators to deliver the session confidently and consistently
We designed a badge-style lock-up featuring the Avon square logo and developed a fluid wave device to represent the Pulse. This wave was used at different scales, integrated into imagery, and featured prominently in the onboarding timeline, guiding participants through the two-hour experience. Avon’s distinctive brand assets, like makeup swatches, were layered into the design for a rich, branded feel.
We interviewed key team members to create authentic video content and built in activities and discussion points to keep energy high throughout. The Prezi format allowed the facilitator to zoom in and out of the timeline, maintaining pace and focus.
To ensure global consistency, we created a comprehensive facilitator guide and provided training for Avon staff to confidently deliver the session, whether on Teams or in the room.
The result was a high-impact, emotionally resonant onboarding experience that captured the spirit of Avon and helped new employees feel part of something bigger from day one.
